WEDDING WEEKEND is fast approaching! Here's a little more info to help prepare for your time on island. If you have any burning questions remaining--call us, text us, email us. We are here for you.

tRANSPORTATION ON ISLAND

Uber & taxis are available for transport around the island.

We also highly recommend The Wave, a free bus that services most of the island. There are pickups every hour near the boat and the airport that go all the way to Sconset. With your luggage you may prefer the door-to-door option of an Uber or taxi, but if you’re staying in Sconset and want to check out Town, The Wave is a great option. All you have to do is walk on the bus, no pass needed.

The Wave schedules / routes are here. Google Maps directions will also tell you what route you are looking for if you put in your destination.

WEATHER & WHAT TO PACK

It is fall in New England! On island, it’s possible to experience shorts-worthy sun, clouds, wind, a bit of rain, and a chilly night all in one day. We highly recommend packing layers.

Welcome drinks on Friday will be largely outside, as will the cocktail hour prior to the reception on Saturday, assuming weather allows. An outer layer may be worth it.

GETTING AROUND ON THE WEDDING DAY

We will be walking from the ceremony location at 37 Ocean Ave to the reception at the Sconset Casino. It is a leisurely 8 minute walk on a mix of pavement and shell roads. There is also a tiny bit of grassy lawn leading up to the ceremony. Full disclosure for anyone that is considering stiletto footwear.

There is a rain plan but we do not want to speak it into existence here.

IN 'SCONSET VILLAGE

While the summer community of Sconset has started to shut down, there are still a few things to check out while you’re here.

  • CLAUDETTE'S - Serves breakfast sandwiches and coffee from 8-11am, and lunch sandwiches after that until about 3pm. Get the meatloaf sandwich WITH THE WORKS. Trust.

  • SCONSET BLUFF WALK - A scenic path that winds between the historic cottages of Sconset and along the bluff overlooking the ocean. You will be going through people’s backyards and that’s okay.

  • SANKATY LIGHTHOUSE - A popular photo opp and a scenic walk. If you take the Bluff Walk all the way, it is a bit further beyond. Round trip walking is probably about an hour and a half. For you runners it’s about 3-3.5 miles there and back from the middle of Sconset.

  • THE BEACH - There are multiple entrances to Sconset Beach if you’re wandering around, but the main one you will see below the Sconset Footbridge.

  • THE CHANTICLEER - A fancier AND ICONIC ISLAND restaurant, if that’s your thing.

  • SUMMER HOUSE RESTAURANT & BAR - Another option for a cocktail or an overpriced meal. Hey, remember where you are!

  • BIKING - We will have a few bikes for folks, unfortunately not 108, but biking around sconset can be a beautiful way to spend an hour or two.

IN TOWN

If you have the time, there are plenty of ways to shop and eat in town. Some of our favorites include:

  • MURRAY'S - Shop for the infamous Nantucket Reds and other preppy clothes and wares.

  • NANTUCKET BOOKWORKS - Come for the books, leave with cute paper goods and fine chocolates.

  • STRAIGHT WHARF FISH - Great for a lobster roll and other seafood. Takeaway or dine-in.

  • BLACK EYED SUSANS - A nice place for brunch. Walk-ins only.

  • LANGUEDOC - A fancy French meal. But the best thing on the menu is the burger.

  • THE JUICE BAR - Lines around the block in peak summer, but in fall you can walk right. Ted loves the Jamaican Slam shake. Katie always gets a scoop of the Green Monster.

  • THE GAZEBO - The mudslide is a thing. A good thing.

  • PROVISIONS - Nantucket loves its sandwiches. This is one of many places to get one. Order the Turkey Terrific, Thanksgiving enjoyed all year round.

BASIC NEEDS

We recommend packing anything you might need as it’s not super easy to grab something in a pinch. But if you need to - these places are all located mid-island and very accessible by bus from Sconset.

  • STOP & SHOP MID ISLAND - Grocery store. Don’t be shocked if entire shelves are unstocked. It’s normal. The adjacent Nantucket Wine & Spirits is convenient for picking up alcohol.

  • ACKCETERA/DAN'S PHARMACY - A block away from each other, either will have a toothbrush if you forgot yours.

GET HERE ALREADY!!!!!! We can't wait!
